The Reason X Mountain Mavericks: Chamonix Mont-Blanc

Known as the adventure capital of the world, Chamonix Mont-Blanc has some of the single most impressive scenery on the planet. Sitting pretty in a French valley surrounded by the Mont-Blanc massif including Europe's iconic highest peak, Chamonix provides endless opportunities for thirsty adventurers and adrenalin junkies a like. With everything from technical mountaineering to sheer mental sports - see Base Jumping from the Aiguille du Midi - it's no surprise Chamonix is one of the most sort after mountains for activities.

Think jagged peaks, untouched faces, layers upon layers of mountains and infinite possibilities for exploring. This area of the Alps offers some unreal scenery and draws crowds day-in-day-out to breath in the awe-inspiring atmosphere of these incredible mountains.

Skiing Chamonix, and in particular the famous Vallee Blanche, has been on my mind for the past few years after spending a summer working in the town and looking on with admiration as groups kitted up to their eye balls with the latest climbing and ski gear headed for high altitude missions.

So, when a content trip with Mountain Mavericks and The Reason snowboarding magazine came together this winter with the intent of skiing off the back of the Aiguille du Midi, I was beyond ready.

With a storyboard focusing around a backcountry touring trip, Chamonix seemed a logical choice for those epic vistas and some hard leg work, and it sure didn't disappoint.

There's something magical about those mountains. I haven't experienced it anywhere else in the world; feeling a mix of supreme calm, overwhelming excitement and underlying vulnerability at the scale and gnarliness of the terrain. It was without doubt one of my most epic experiences of alpinism so far, and i'm already frothing to go back!
